Joining the Foster Communication Network
Once your foster registration form is approved, you’ll receive a unique access code to join the private HSCC Foster Facebook group. This group is the primary way we share foster needs and time-sensitive information.
Foster Requests and Animal Updates
Through the Facebook group, we post photos and details about animals in need of foster homes. Some requests require same-day pickup, while others provide advance notice when we expect incoming animals, such as puppies or kittens.
Email and General HSCC Communications
Volunteer fosters receive important updates and invitations by email and are also included in standard HSCC communications to stay informed about general shelter news and events.
Medical Care and Foster Questions
HSCC provides designated phone numbers and a text line for medical concerns, behavioral issues, and foster-related questions. Fosters are given guidance on which communication method to use and the expected response timeframe based on urgency. General questions and non-urgent advice may also be posted in the HSCC Foster Facebook group, where foster advocate volunteers and experienced fosters often provide guidance.
Communicating with Potential Adopters
When a potential adopter inquires about an animal in your care, HSCC will forward their contact information to you. Fosters are expected to respond within 24 hours and may arrange meet-and-greets at the shelter or another agreed-upon location. HSCC will provide guidance on processing adoptions.
Kitten Foster Placement at PetSmart
Kitten fosters are strongly encouraged to return their fosters to HSCC for placement through our PetSmart adoption program. With high foot traffic and an average stay of five days, PetSmart placements help animals find homes quickly while supporting HSCC’s lifesaving mission.
