Veterans Continue to Save Lives Through Adoption

At the Humane Society of Carroll County (HSCC), every adoption is lifesaving—but some carry an especially powerful meaning. Through the Military Matches program, veterans are offered fee-waived adoptions, creating opportunities for animals in need while honoring those who have served.

When a veteran chooses adoption, they are giving an animal more than a home—they are giving them a second chance. One recent adopter shared their experience after welcoming a dog through the program: “I adopted Finn (formerly Fred) two weeks ago through the veteran waived adoption. He is just perfect!”

For animals like Finn, adoption means leaving the uncertainty of shelter life behind and stepping into a future filled with stability, care, and companionship. For veterans, adoption is another way to give back—by opening their homes and hearts to animals who need them most.

Military Matches helps remove barriers to adoption while advancing HSCC’s lifesaving mission. Each successful adoption creates space in the shelter for another animal in need and strengthens the network of people committed to saving lives.

Through programs like Military Matches, veterans continue to make a difference—proving that service, compassion, and commitment don’t end when the uniform comes off.
